What is Madex? Why does it matter to bitcoin?

@SPACEBULL

Madex is a signal in a world full of noise—a testament to the enduring value of craftsmanship. It calls for a return to high-quality, well-designed creations that carry with it stories of deep meaning. Great art is steeped in layers of meaning. When you own a piece of art that you find meaningful, it reflects an idea or value that resonates with you. By sharing those stories with others, we allow them to echo into the future.

Today, the most important idea to safeguard is that of incorruptible money – a system that levels the playing field. bitcoin is the purest manifestation of that ideal. By shining a light on bitcoin, we amplify its power to drive human flourishing, sparking a modern renaissance in the arts.

Madex champions self-sovereignty, intertwining the narratives of creators and visionaries with the larger story of bitcoin. At its core, Madex is about proof of work—the enduring value of what can be built with purpose, intention, and discipline.

What was your first interaction with bitcoin, and when did you truly understand it?

My first brush with bitcoin was in 2012. I was working on a startup at the time, trying to build banking software for individuals. Back then, I still believed you could fix the traditional financial system with the right plan and enough determination. It didn’t take long for us to realize just how improbable it is to break into that world, especially as a young entrepreneur without the right connections. Just as we were about to call it quits, an eccentric friend suggested we consider using bitcoin to build our product. That was the first time I asked, “What is bitcoin?”. It wouldn’t be the last.

My bitcoin journey wasn’t some lightbulb moment. It took time—education, trial and error, plenty of mistakes. It was a slow burn. By 2018, after many touchpoints, including experience losing keys, misallocating coins, and learning lessons the hard way, I became a bitcoin maximalist. I became fully committed to its success.

What are your thoughts on the current direction of modern art?

Modern art? It’s trash. For a while, I thought those multi-million-dollar art sales were something I could aspire to, but now it’s clear—it’s a scam, a closed club that shuts out people like me who believe in freedom and authenticity.

The ultra-wealthy today seem to lack imagination and don’t grasp the potential energy of money. Just imagine what those absurd price tags could fuel in the hands of productive people. Some smart bitcoiners are willing to pay for original art, but very few. As our wealth grows, more bitcoiners will seek high-quality products and services, but eventually, the fiat driven prices get ridiculous. It’s a symptom of broken money—a way to fight inflation, launder cash, dodge taxes, or all of the above. That is the most sensible explanation and bitcoiners don’t need to play that game.

Maybe one day, a high roller in Monaco will sit me down at a cigar bar and offer an alternative explanation. Even so, no matter how wealthy bitcoiners become, I’m certain none of us will be buying overpriced Pollocks when you can get a Madex original for a fraction of the cost and stack sats with the difference.

Is it true that Sessions saw your full dick and balls when sharing a hotel room because you sleep in the nude (as a sovereign individual)?

Yes, it’s true.

I blame Baltic Honey Badger in Riga—a first-class bitcoin event that’s definitely worth the trip. Thanks to the good folks at Stackchain Magazine, everyone can now share in Ben’s good fortune. (see centerfold)

What do you hope to achieve with Madex?

I’m creating Madex for my younger self—the kid with raw talent who just needs a spark, a little Madex espresso, to push them to pursue their creative gifts. Beyond that, I want creators to realize that the bitcoin network is a marketplace where they can offer the best of themselves, where value is measured by the quality of their work, and success is earned through merit.

I want to live in a world built on the bitcoin standard, buying products that are masterfully crafted with precision and purpose. As bitcoin continues to ascend, I find myself less and less likely to buy low-quality, fiat-produced junk. A fulfilling life isn’t built on junk. High-quality, thoughtfully designed, and durable goods are essential to happiness. There’s something divine about a well-made painting, tool, or machine—it’s proof that someone, just like you, invested time and care to make life better for both of you.

What is it about bitcoin that inspires your work?

The force and will of a free man, and the nature and beauty of a free woman. bitcoin serves as a strong foundation and a powerful anchor for a sovereign life, but what excites me most is the individual dreams and untapped potential within bitcoin. I think about the possibilities in a future where money is incorruptible, where capitalism can thrive without the suffocating grip of government intervention and taxation. I wonder what brilliant ideas and creations will emerge when wealth is earned fairly, and capital is allocated rationally.

A few months ago, bitcoin Twitter witnessed the “David” photo of you (see centerfold) in the desert. We all want to know… how cold was it?

The truth is, it was incredibly hot and I have a small cock. This is why I’ve decided to compensate by becoming the greatest living artist of my generation.

Life is about balance.

What upcoming Madex projects should people be excited about?

Madex means “build to last” and since I won’t be around forever, the vision for Madex is to build it like a fashion house—a design team and brand name behind everything we create. Madex will bring together art directors, artists, and skilled tradespeople who follow the vision of a head designer. For now, that’s me. Eventually, I’ll train a successor to carry the company’s philosophy and craftsmanship into the future. So, in the coming years, expect design and products to take center stage over original art as we expand and evolve.

At the end of the day, bitcoin is only a tool. We need to rebuild our communities and local economies with that tool. What have you learned as a bitcoin entrepreneur building within our space, and what recommendations do you have for others trying to build as well?

It’s vital to build your local bitcoin economy by onboarding tradespeople and suppliers you rely on daily. Paying someone in bitcoin is more than a transaction—it’s an investment in their business. When tough times hit, those who hold bitcoin will be the ones who endure.

Look to great examples like Bull Bitcoin in Costa Rica or BTC Sessions in Alberta. Everyone loves to HODL, but the truth is we need to spedn bitcoin to build and maintain the infrastructure that will support us long-term.

For those running entirely bitcoin-based businesses, it’s crucial to keep a healthy fiat balance. As bitcoiners, it’s tempting to go all-in, but when the inevitable bear market arrives, you’ll need fiat savings to stay afloat or to buy bitcoin at a lower price. Not having that cushion is a huge mistake.

If you’re running a non-essential bitcoin business, I recommend expanding beyond bitcoin as soon as possible. In bear markets, cash flow from people indifferent to bitcoin price fluctuations is critical to picking up cheap coins. Remember, bitcoiners don’t like to spend in a downturn—your sales could drop to zero. If you don’t want to sell at a loss when the market is low, prepare now and broaden your horizons.

Why must our sovereignty seeking readers pick up a book by Ayn Rand?

Ayn Rand gave a voice to convictions I’d always felt, but could not fully articulate. Before reading The Fountainhead or the iconic “Money Speech” in Atlas Shrugged, I had the instincts of sovereignty, but lacked the language to express them clearly. Rand helped me formalize the truth that the individual mind is sacred and that freedom is the cornerstone of any meaningful existence.

It’s a mad world, what is your most hopeful thought?

The collectivist, the communist, the parasite—they can never succeed for long because human nature itself refutes them. It’s human nature that gave birth to money and capitalism, both born from the mind’s need to trade value for value in a free environment. Without private property and the freedom to exchange, life loses its meaning. There’s no discovery, no innovation, no creativity—just the slow, grinding death of the soul. We’re living through a nightmare of collectivist policies right now, but as long as the will of human nature exists, the flame of individual freedom can never be extinguished. Alea Iacta Est.
