DSB and me
by Clumsy Dork

GM everyone and LFG!!!!! (These are my favorite things to say and see on Bitcoin twitter.)

I really enjoyed being in the DSB community and had so many great experiences I would have never had if I didn’t do my yellow projects. I have never written an article before but when I was asked to I figured it would be a great chance to reflect on my yellow project journey.
It all started when I couldn’t find good podcasts during the summer in 2024. I am a very antisocial person and even listening to chatty podcasts with unfamiliar guests gives me a bit of social anxiety. My husband joked that I would like yellow’s DSB spaces because only yellow talks and he never gives the mic to anyone (not even Barry). I was like “yeah maybe”. About the same time, a quilt bug bit me and I had an urge to learn appliqué quilt. Maxis Club’s yellow character was perfect for that. I reactivated my old twitter account to listen to DSB spaces and renamed it to Clumsy Dork which is what my husband calls me because that is who I am. But it still feels so weird when anyone else calls me by that name. And the worst but super funny thing is that some people on Twitter choose to call me just Dork for short.

I wasn’t sure if I wanted to keep listening to the DSB spaces at first because I couldn’t understand most of what yellow was talking about. But I kept listening while I was working on my yellow appliqué vest. I usually work on one project at a time but I was very nervous because I was trying new techniques. Problems kept popping up one after another and the project trajectory I was on seemed to be doomed. I started working on a denim yellow bag as a palette cleanser/stress reliever because I love sewing denim and knew it couldn’t go wrong. In the end it was a happy surprise when the yellow vest turned out so much better than I hoped. It makes me so happy every time I wear it.
Since by a crazy coincidence my first time joining DSB spaces happened to be the 1000th episode I took it as a sign and wanted to pay my respect to yellow’s dedication. I pledged to make yellow crafts until Bitcoin hit 100K. My yellow denim bag was almost done and I had so many more yellow craft ideas in my mind but not enough time to get to them–my husband was so certain that Bitcoin would hit 100K in 4-6 weeks (he’s always too bullish). I was shadow banned back then and only my husband’s multiple accounts and some spammers liked my tweets. But I didn’t stop believin’!!! I kept working on yellow crafts and tweeting into the void.

Favorite things about the projects:
The yellow projects were the perfect place for me to practice my new skills and try ideas I always had but never got around to actually making. Also I thought making memes into physical form was very cool. I felt like I had some super power. I was completely new to twitter and the Bitcoin Twitter community. Everything was very exciting and new to me, especially memes! The very first meme I bookmarked was yellow’s confused cat replying to @RayPoisonaut with him saying “WAT” on August 22nd. I immediately fell in love with that funny character and I knew I had to make it. But first I started on a denim yellow plushie. I never made plushies before and the hardest part was there’s no sewing pattern for it. I had quite a few trials and errors and made some improvements with each iteration. Thank god I am not a perfectionist or I would have never finished anything! My denim yellow is not exquisite but he is perfectly imperfect to me. I love him. He has such character and he reminds me that I didn’t give up and solved those difficult challenges. And he is made in denim. He is one of my absolute favorites!! Making the Confused yellow Cat was so much easier because I had already made the head pattern and I was able to find a vintage raccoon sewing pattern that looked somewhat similar to a confused cat body. Altering and modifying existing patterns is my forté.

Sending the Confused yellow Cat to the auction was the highlight for sure. But also I wish I kept him.. Making him a display box was my husband’s idea. I tried to mimic the original Flat Eric’s packaging. Ironically, making the box took me a lot more time than making the plushie to go in it. But it was worth every minute I spent and every stabbing I got on my fingers with needles. Now he has a comfortable little spot to sit in. Thank you Turbo for winning him. Hope your family is not mad at you or me that you are short on Bitcoin…
The Halloween candy buckets were another big project that was also inspired by yellow’s meme. I was finally able to try a paper maché that I was curious about for a long time. This was a nerve wracking one too. I used old pink egg cartons for the material. Until I started painting, they were just weird looking pink blobs. The yellow whale plushie was also inspired by a meme. I swear I saw it somewhere but I can’t find it anywhere anymore. Please let me know if anyone has seen the yellow whale meme.
I regretted what I committed to countless times, especially after my husband’s 100k prediction date came and went. My motto became “I do this not because it is easy, but because I thought it would be easy”. I made one non-yellow project, a quilted crossbody bag, when Bitcoin was still below 100K and it made me feel so wrong and guilty. I made a yellow sprite charm real quick to go with it and instantly redeemed myself.
Now that DSB is over, I don’t need to make yellow things anymore, but I can’t stop thinkin’ and makin’ yellow stuff! I am currently working on my first full quilt with a big sunny yellow on it as I am writing this article in the middle of January through the beginning of February.Yellow said he will open DSB spaces whenever he wants to say something and feels like it. Just like yellow, I will make yellow projects whenever inspiration hits me and I feel like it.

Obviously yellow is very addictive!!!
My husband (who btw is a green character who is falsely slandered as a CNBC enjoyer) has contributed to the Seedsigner project. I thought it’s super cool he’s doing good for the world. I wanted to do something good too. My yellow projects were just for my own fun. DSBers seemed to enjoy my yellow projects too and someone found value in my yellow creations to actually purchase them. All proceeds went to the Seedsigner project so that this counts as I did something good for the world.
I loved this WIN WIN WIN situation.
